Week Five Round Up

Saturday 1st June

Its as you were at the top of the Geoff Jones Runcorn Darts League following the Week 5 games, with two teams remaining unbeaten in Section One.

Unbeaten Bogey Flickers continue to set the pace with their first 9-0 score of the season, this coming away at Northern Bar. Also winning their fifth successive game was Wanderers, who won 6-3 at the Prospect against The Lads. The duo are two points clear of Total Confusion, who lost their second successive game 5-4 to Beechwood Cavaliers but remain in third. Billy Dogs move level on points with them after a 5-4 win over Halfway Mixed, whilst Runcorn Linnets won their second win on the trot after a 5-4 win at Clarry B, James Murray winning the decisive game.

The last unbeaten record in Section Two went as The Roundside went down to Northern Starks. Roundside went 5-0 up in that game, but Starks rallied to make it 5-4 in the end. They lead the section by a two points still though after Halfway Peers lost by the same scoreline to Windy Hill Bullys who move up to six points. It was 4-4 in that game with Shaun Littler winning it for Bullys. There are three teams on that points total, with Clarry Tats and Nomads joining them after winning 5-4 win at Doo Waps and Has Beens respectively. Tats were 4-3 behind in their game, with Dave Nash keeping his nerve to win, whilst Ste Done won the final game for Nomads. Halfway to the Fids put their points deduction behind them with a 6-3 win at The Royal.

Still flying high at the top of Section Three are Con Artists, who won 8-1 for the second week running, this time at home to Quarrymen. They are two points clear of The Willies who won 5-4 at home to Northern R Soles and High Voltage who won 7-2 at Bang Tidies. Biggest win in Section Three came at Norton Arms, who whitewashed Wilsons Woodchuckers 9-0, whiclst Castle Double Tops bounced back to winning ways with a 6-3 victory over Beechwood Bullets.

The unbeaten leaders in Section Four are The A Team, who won 5-4 at Legacy Darts with Paul Kennils winning a deciding leg. Wine Bar are up to second after a 6-3 win over Addy Chuckers, with Lockdown Lizards winning their second successive game 5-4 against Halfway Bar, John Dover winning a deciding leg in that match. Its three wins on the trot for Blue Oyster Bar who won 7-2 at Golden Arrows, whilst Northern Flytes ended a three game losing streak by beating Lockdown Legends 7-2.

Beechwood Originals and Flight Attendants remain unbeaten in Section Five, with the former taking top spot after an 8-1 win over Bottom House. Flight Attendants beat Queen of Hearts Mixed 6-3. Linnets Chuckers bounced back to winning ways with a 5-4 win over The Fat 20s, whilst The Unusual Suspects claimed their first ever win by winning 6-3 at The Warmy Wobblers. The Prospect won 6-3 at Low Voltage in the other game.

From a stats point of view, there's so much to write about in the Total Confusion v Beechwood Cavaliers game. Total Confusion's Rob Gatcliffe won in just 13 darts in singles and 18 darts in doubles with Reece Lloyd, also hitting a 180 in his doubles. Teammate Alan Magee also hit a maximum and a 115 checkout in his singles, his two leg win coming in 16 and 18 darts. For Beechwood, Chris Bazley won his two legs in singles in 17 and 18 darts, with Mike O'Dwyer sealing victory in what was a deciding ninth leg.

Bogey Flickers were also in fine form at Northern Bar, with Mike Warren and Anton Conroy both hitting maximums. Dave Garner and Mike Warren won their doubles game in 16 and 18 darts, Mike hitting a 130 finish in one leg and Dave starting with 160 in the other. Anton Conroy and Simon Bisset also won one of their doubles legs in 18 darts.

Three Wanderers players hit maximums in their game at The Lads, Dean Smith in his singles with partners Kev Jones and Paul Illidge both hitting one in their doubles game. Dean won one of his legs in 18 darts, with teammate Josh Bury also winning a leg in 18 darts. It was The Lads' Rob Fish though who was the best on the night, winning one of his singles in just 13 darts.

As well as the above there were four other maximums hit, these by Callum Dow of Beechwood Originals, Paul Edwards of Halfway Mixed, John Norton of Has Beens and Martin Savage of Halfway Bar. Brian Allan of Roundside won in 16 darts, with John Kilkenny of Halfway Mixed winning in 17 darts. Three 18 dart games were hit, Jordan Davies of Bully Dogs and Scott Greenwood of Legacy Darts in singles plus Brian Spruce and Ros Hemmings for Bully Dogs in doubles. Finally there were two 19 dart games, these by Paul Edwards of Halfway Mixed and Wayne Holbrook of Halfway Peers.

There were not many high finishes around as well as the few mentioned above. Mike Poole of Clarry B hit a 113 finish, whilst Ste Done of Nomads had a 152 away shot in his doubles game. From a tons perspective, Sean Bell of Halfway Mixed was the best this week with 9 tons in the 6 games he played, with Peter Mullally hitting three tons in his singles game for Wine Bar.
